The goal of the competition is to write and illustrate a fairy-tale connected with historical places or buildings of the Visegrad Group – Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.

Goals

  • - teaching children to read and write fairy-tales,
  • - imagination development,
  • - development of literary activity among children,
  • - raising of emotional sensitivity of children,
  • - cultivation of literary talents,
  • - promotion of talented children writers,
  • - promotion of reading,
  • - promotion of children literary expression among adults,

Participants

Participants of the competition are schoolchildren, students, groups of students (2 students max.) no older than 16 years, from every type of school, club, library, cultural institution and handicapped young people no older than 20 years.

The participants are divided into three categories:

  • I category – age 10-12
  • II category – ages 13-16
  • II category – special

Rules for the participants

Submissions
  • 1. The goal of the competition is to plan, write in prose and create an attractive and well edited self-made book. The result of the work should be a self-made book fully designed by the author, well written and illustrated.
  • 2. The illustrated book should have 10 to 30 pages. Printed text is allowed. The illustrations should be the author’s original creation (clipart, scanned illustrations from other books and photos are forbidden).
  • 3. Professionally bound books (by a professional bookbinder) are disqualified.
  • 4. Partial or full plagiarism means disqualification.
  • 5. Every form and size of the book is allowed.
Other provisions
  • 1. The competition jury evaluates every submitted book in each category.
  • 2. The decisions of the jury are final.
  • 3. After the evaluation of the submitted books in each of the libraries, in their respective countries, the jury submits the chosen best books in each category to the international jury no later than 20 days from the ending of the first library evaluation.
  • 4. The winners are informed by e-mail and phone by the jury. The results will be announced to the public.
  • 5. The award ceremony in each of the participants’ country will be held in April 2015.
  • 6. The winners will be awarded prizes (of the in-kind type) provided by the organizers.
  • 7. The in-kind prizes cannot be exchanged for money.
  • 8. Jury has the right to change or not to give a prize. The decision of the jury is final.
  • 9. The results of the competition will be announced on the following websites: www.ksiaznica.bielsko.pl ; www.vfl.ksiaznica.bielsko.pl
  • 10. The winning books chosen by the jury can be published in the media, on organizer’s websites, in printed post-competition publication and other materials issued by the organizers, prize founders and other media partners without any payment, only in promotional purposes in accordance with the Polish 4.02.1994 Copyright Law Act (Dz. U. z 2000 r. Nr 80, poz. 904 z późn. zm.).
  • 11. The organizer has the right to edit and shorten the published works and to publish their parts.
  • 12. The organizer does not send back the submitted works and is not responsible for losing them.
  • 13. The organizer does not send the prizes by mail. The participants claim their prizes personally or by an authorized person after the announcement of the results, after the opening ceremony.
  • 14. In special circumstances like a wrong interpretation of the rules by the participants, the final decision is made by the organizes after the consultation with the jury.

The submissions should contain a special form as an attachment.

The rules of the competition jury

  • 1. Setting-up the jury
    The juries of each country are set-up by library directors in Bielsko-Biała, Frýdek-Místek and Žilina.
  • 2. Work of the jury
    The submitted books are evaluated using points (maximum – 16 points).
  • the book is on topic (0-2 points),
  • composition (0-2 points),
  • style (0-2 points),
  • appropriate language and grammar (0-2 points),
  • the book is fully self-made (0-2 points),
  • special features of the book – originality, creativeness (0-2 points),
  • the look of the book – cover, illustrations, title page (0-2 points),
  • orthography and punctuation (0-2 points – If there are 1-3 mistakes, every mistake means losing 0,5 point - 4 mistakes means 0 points).

Every decision of the jury is final.

After the evaluation of the submitted books in each of the libraries in their respective countries, the jury submits 15 chosen books in each category to the international jury no later than 20 days from the ending of the first library evaluation. The international organizer of the XVI edition of the contest is Książnica Beskidzka w Bielsku-Białej.

Award rules

  • 1. The winners of the competition are awarded prizes provided by the organizers.
  • 2. The winning books with the names of their authors are published on www.ksiażnica.bielsko.pl.
  • 3. The prizes cannot be exchanged for different ones.
  • 4. The winners will attend a special award ceremony. The date of the award ceremony will be given to the winners by e-mail or telephone.

Final provisions

  • 1. The organizer has the right to disqualify any participant not respecting the above rules.
  • 2. The organizer does not send back the submitted works. The submitted works are Ksiażnica Beskidzka property.
  • 3. The decision of the organizers concerning the choice of the winners and awards is final.
  • 4. The organizers have the right to change the above rules. Any possible changes of the rules will be announced on www.ksiaznica.bielsko.pl website.
